What I Learned from Loss

Since March of the year 2020, life has shifted considerably.
When you experience great loss, it feels like everything in your life shifts. Since the Pandemic and more recently for me, the loss of my dear mother, the universe reminds me I need to savour life’s every moment of every day you are here on earth.
I think of all the times my mother and I spent together and realize I wish I had more of them and wish they were longer. Nights we talked for hours, the in jokes, the drinks, the meals, conversations kissed with laughter, the outing and events attended together and with others, and the insight shared and personal problems digested. Loss gives us a wake-up call to the love and support around and available to us.
Yes, life is fleeting. It flies by. Routines make it that way. So, loss makes us realize how precious time is. We need to learn to live each moment to the fullest.
I’ve also learned that I am not alone in my thoughts. I’ve heard many people say and realize a shift in the universe because of loss. We’ve lost three years of being in isolation, we’ve lost in person time with human contact. We’ve lost love ones, friends, family members, co-workers and neighbours. We’ve lost jobs, money, perspective and some have even lost our minds and hope. We can not lose our faith.
